Rose had laid a simple light pink rose on the top of the casket carrying her sister Lily six feet underground. Her facial features were stiff, and her arms wrapped around her mother's shoulders as Blossom desperately clung to Rose. The numb feeling inside of her seemed to work against the bitter autumnal wind that blew the day of the funeral. As the small crowd of family and friends dispersed she stood alone with Aaron at her side. Rose had barely said a word the past few weeks and all her friends could do was stand by and wait for some kind of reaction.
Slowly her hand reached sideways and as Aaron started to walk away she grabbed his hand and gripped onto it hard.
"I just need a second, okay?" Rose spoke softly, her short stature forcing her to lift her toes up so that she could kiss his cheek lightly. He nodded, walking towards the gates and one of the black SUV's to bring them back to the school after the funeral had finished.
As he left her view, hot tears rolled down her rosy cheeks slowly as her true feelings seemed to surface on her face. A devastated look; one of sorrow and grief that would shock those who knew Rose as to be something greatly foreign to her. So much of her energy had been spent in an attempt to stay strong, the young woman just didn't have anything left in her to commit to that.
She stared down at the mound of dirt and the headstone that was supposed to represent her sister. Sorrow seemed to instantly turn to rage as she began to kick at the dirt.
"I HATE YOU!" She screamed, her voice straining at the thought of never seeing her sister again. Her small fists pounded into the grave with the tiny rocks embedding themselves into her soft pale skin. "WHY?! WHY?!!"
The roses that had been placed on the top of the grave were now being smashed under the force of her punches and awkward kicks, her sobs turning into primitive yelps and cries for answers that would never come. By now, Aaron had heard the yelling and ran across the graveyard, picking Rose off of the ground as she beat her fists into his chest struggling until there was nothing left in her.
Weeks had now passed, and Rose continued life as she thought Lily would want her to.
There was always the hope however, that the flowers Lily would send to tell Rose she was alive would start to appear.
None would ever come.
