Mia shifted in her dorm room as her eyes fluttered open to greet the day, or, as she found out as she looked over at her alarm clock, 4 AM.
She moved her hair from eyes and sat upright on the edge of the bed. A strap from the tank top she wore had slipped off her shoulder and she padded up her arm to slide it back up as she stood. There was some activity above her in the dorms, mostly the trainees who got up early for training. She was on the third floor and the trainees were on the fourth. Mia left her room in the white tank top and tiny pj shorts without much care for her lack of wardrobe and made her way up to the roof to catch a breath of air.
It had been some time since she had a nightmare. Her cheeks were flush with heat from the anxitey of the moments before she woke up. In her dream, everyone she cared for slowly started to rot around her. The last two being her parents, and when she reached out for them they turned to ash. She hated the ominous feeling that it left her with. Mia was never a fatalist, but these were dark days for her family and eventually she knew that it would eventually start to corrode at their spirits.
At the very least, Brandon was recovering nicely from his injuries, being pushed to the edge by not only his training but by his own demands on his body. Mia would occasionally join in but fighting never interested her. She loved books and art, and loved to grow plants in the garden with Ms. Kim and her mother Keiko. Mia was young, but determined to live life outside of pain of her brother's death. Instead of letting herself slowly become depressed, she wanted to live life instead.
Living meant adjusting to this new place. The Academy was filled with a lot of egos and she knew eventually she would butt heads with at least a few. The guys here were especially gorgeous and that would of course prompt her to flirt and perhaps overshadow women trying to catch their attention. Or at least, that's what she hoped to do.
She took a deep breath of the morning fresh air and grinned slightly as she leaned against the short brick wall that surrounded the roof.
It was an adjustment, but one she welcomed.
