Tuesday Night
The black car drove smoothly through the streets of the town. The old man sat in the passenger seat, the window between the front and back up. In the backseat sat the blonde who had become his new hobby. He knew her every move, every vice she held, every man she used. It hadn’t taken much to lead the girl astray from what her parents had planned for her. They had been hard on her, trained her well but hard, leaving her hardened to the world around her. With just a bit of doubt planted in her mind in them courtesy of the attacks on Rose, she’d been convinced to go on her own path. If anyone got in her way, she’d eliminate them. He smiled, watching her light a cigarette. She would be one of his ultimate weapons and prisoners all in one swift move. The old man had a plan, always had a plan, and it was rolling along beautifully.
Wednesday Morning
Lily stood in her mother’s kitchen, quivering with anger. Blossom stood across the kitchen with a smirk on her face and arms crossed, the envelope she’d found left on her door step thrown on the kitchen table. Pictures of Lily in her many indiscretions laid across it, not only with random agents but also with Anson. Blossom gestured at the pictures, then the letter she’d received letting her know that Lily had been hired on as an MI 7 agent.
“To think I actually thought you might have been good enough to get hired on without using these tactics. Obviously I was wrong.”
Lily’s eyes were glued to the pictures for the first few moments before she turned them to her mother. The look on her face was enough to hurt Blossom; it was hate, pure hate and the look was coming from her oldest child. Lily took a step forward, Blossom took a step back against the counter without even realizing it.
“You’ve been having me followed? This is how you show you trust your children and wish us the best? You have people follow us around town like we’re on some damned reality show??”
Lily’s voice had rose in pitch, anger filling her faster than she expected. Before Blossom could reply, Lily had delivered a fist directly to her nose, momentarily blinding her. Blossom was in shock for a moment before her training kicked in. As Lily’s hand drew away from her face, Blossom locked onto her arm, twisting it. Lily delivered a second blow with her left hand before Blossom could seriously hurt her right one, causing Blossom to release. As Lily stepped back, Blossom backhanded her hard enough to knock the girl to the floor. With her hand still in midair, she looked down at Lily, who had blood drizzling from her lip.
“Lily..I..”
Lily’s right foot shot out knocking Blossom’s feet out from under her; lily’s left leg came down hard across blossom’s chest. She rolled, pinning her mother to the ground with the barrel of a gun pressed between her eyes. The cold reality brought tears instantly to Blossom’s eyes—she had trained her daughter well, very well. In training her, though, she’d created a monster she’d never expected. Blossom closed her eyes, tears rolling from them.
“Lily. I love you baby..” she mumbled before the gun was brought down hard onto the side of her head. When she woke later, she was still on the kitchen floor, a crude sort of note left by her side wrote on an empty food box.
“Never speak my name again. I will not hesitate to kill you next time. You are dead to me.” Upon later inspection of Lily’s room, it was found empty of anything important to her. Blossom sat on the bed, sobbing…
Wednesday Night
“Cut all ties, Arum, or I will cut them for you.”…the hunter’s threat echoed in her mind. She had refused to cut off her brothers and sister, though, which was fine with him. They were her weakness—he needed her to keep them close. Without them, he’d have no hold over her. After the encounter with her mother, she’d flown directly to Paris. She had to make sure Rose was safe on the way home. She had to warn her about how their mother was behaving. Now, though, Rose laid on the floor, bloody by Lily’s own hands. Rose wouldn’t listen, defending her mother against the words Lily said, actually grabbing ahold of Lily when she’d tried to leave. Lily’s hand had drawn back without her even realizing it, hitting Rose harder than she ever thought possible. Rose had got back on her feet, holding her face, but tried again to stop Lily from leaving. It had resulted in the poor girl laying on the floor, sobbing softly in confusion and fear. When Rose looked up at Lily, she saw the silver gun pointed directly at her head.
“I’m sorry, Rosie, you’ve become a liability.”…”Lily, N…”…was the last thing Rose said as a bullet hit directly between her eyes. Shaking her head as she looked down at her baby sister, Lily wiped a bit of blood that had splashed onto her shoes off with Rose’s hemline. Thyme burst into the room at the gunshot, only to be greeted by one of his own. Lily shook her head again, stepping over Thyme as she left the room. “Such a waste…” she mumbled as she pushed the “g” button in the elevator. The doors slowly slid shut…
Lily woke with a scream on her lips. She clutched the sheets of the hotel bed, looking around wildly to get her bearings. She hadn’t flown to Paris. She was in the hotel room provided by the Hunter until he found her a suitable apartment. In reality that meant until he got her apartment so wired she couldn’t sneeze without him knowing. Sweat soaked Lily as she stood, grabbing the glass by her bed. A swig of the watered down whiskey calmed her as it ran down her throat, followed closely by her lighting a cigarette. She picked up her phone, dialing Rose’s number and getting her voicemail.
“Rosie…it’s Lil….I just…I hope you’re not letting anything ruin your good time in Paris.”
She sighed and hung up the phone. A distant life would be a lonely one, but she would do what she had to get ahead and keep them safe.
