Norah Kinsley had started her day off well. News of a possible promotion soon in her future made her step a little lighter. She'd always considered herself a hard worker and thought she deserved this promotion. Other agents looked at her and she saw the jealousy in their eyes. She didn't care, though, simply smiling at them. This was her big break. This was her big day.
"Shake things up, my dear. It's time to shake things up." The words had echoed through Lily's phone before she let it close quickly. It was the cue for her to squeeze the trigger she'd been laying a finger loosely across. Norah wouldn't know what hit her, the sound of glass shattering ringing in her ears and a distant pain in her chest. She looked back at the window, barely catching a reflection of her bloody back in what was left of it. The desk rushed up at her, her body folding over it. This was her big day. This couldn't be happening...
A survellience camera caught the image of the woman on the adjacent rooftop. The bright pink boy cut hair would bring up no memories. She stopped for a moment, wiggling her fingers in the direction of the camera and mouthed "One down..." before she disappeared over the side of the building.
"Hold on, Norah, hold on!" one of her coworkers she'd smirked at early screamed in her ear. It was just a distant whisper, though, as she lightly squeezed his hand. She smiled at him a bit, then her eyes slid to the side.
This was Norah Kinsleys day. A day she'd never be forgotten. The day she was murdered by Lily Hauser--a mere starting blow in the battles that would lead up to a war.
