A dash (-) at the begining of the sentence indicates a conversation had in the past.
Brandon Blaylock looked up at his father with an indignant look as Sean pressed a hand into his shoulder and forced him away from Ana Blaylock, Sean's mother.
"I told you to never come here alone."
"That's why I brought Eva." Brandon retorted, smirking slightly as Eva Snow held up her hands as if to say to not bring her into this. Sean shot a look over to Eva as well, motioning for her to follow him. Earlier that day, Eva had spotted Brandon sneaking away from the school. She had noticed since they had gotten back that he had been dissapearing more and more frequently and she wondered what he was up to, so she followed him to confront him.
-"It's all connected." Brandon said, lighting a smoke on the way there. "My grandpa knows stuff, things that my parents will never tell me and are connected to what happened to Kano, Ren...Dani."
-Eva looked at him strangely for a moment, but then parts of it began to make some sense to her. Her mother had always been forthcomming with the past.
-"Yeah, he's sick. Yeah, maybe I'm taking advantage of that but if I can do something, learn something..." Brandon sighed out of frustration.
-"And here I was thinking you had some girl on the side other than Dani."
-"Danielle's never on the side. She's usually always on top." Brandon smirked with his classic wry wit and they both made their way.
"Try to keep a better handle on your boy Sean. He's really too much like his mother." Ana purred, her paperthin and wrinkled fingertips curling around the tip of the cigarette to inhale. "Your father is sick Sean, and your boy's been taking advantage of that. Seems more like something that Japanese whore would do. Just like you're father. Swayed too easily. "
Sean didn't say a word to old woman. It had been sixteen years and you would think the woman would have settled into the idea that Sean had already made his choice with Keiko. Sean loved Keiko in every possible way. Sean knew what kind of woman Keiko was, and it was something much more brilliant and beautiful than the wretch standing in front of him. He didn't have to defend that kind of love to a bitter old woman.
"Dad! Don't let her talk about mom like that! You're a fucking BITCH!" Brandon yelled towards Ana, being held back by Sean's firm grip. Sean yanked Brandon back, turning him around.
"Let it go Brandon. She'll never accept our family the way it is. What our family has, is something she will never experience and it was your mother that made is possible. Let it go." Sean's facial features held firm, and looked up at Ana with that same look. "I have."
Ana simply rolled back her shoulder and turned to flick her cigarette in the ashtray on her desk. It enraged her more that Sean refused to talk back to her and Sean used that against her. Sean, Brandon and Eva left the house in silence, and all three moved into the stretch towncar that was waiting for them outside to take them back to the Academy. Eva beared a small glimpse of the inner workings of the Blaylock household, and she sat back in silence, thinking of her own.
Ana's hands curled around the receive of the telephone as she dialed a number given to her a few days ago.
-"Anything information you can offer..." The voice asked, her Japanese accent predominant.
-"Betray my own son?"
-"I'd expect no less from a woman of your caliber."
Ana lit another cigarette and leaned her thin body up against the side of the desk.
"Move quickly. They've just left heading back towards the school. Licence plate number 3455632. An unmarked black towncar."
Ana smirked lightly, hanging up the telephone. Killing two birds with one stone. The young blond? Well, there were casualties in every war... Ana thought as she left the office, turning off the lights as her cigarette crackled in the silence of the empty household.
Brandon had his arms crossed firmly under his chest casting glares towards Sean who refused to fight with Brandon with Eva sitting next to him. Eva looked between the two men and remained silent as she looked down at her hands.
Ziiiiinggggg!
Eva felt her heart flutter as she felt a cool breeze suddenly rush past her ear and heard glass spider behind her. Sean's eyes widened as he grabbed both Brandon and Eva each by their arm and threw them against the bottom of the car.
"Stay. Down." Sean ordered, crouching himself overtop of their bodies. The car suddenly jerked aside and Sean threw his head back to look at the driver. The driver's body slumped aside and the car swirved again. A sniper. There wasn't much time to think. Another few shots rang out and Brandon felt himself struggling underneith his father to sit up. Sean quickly threw off his jacket unstrapped the bullet proof vest he had on and pressed it on top of Brandon and Eva. He crawled over the seat and used his leg to press against the brake hard overtop of the foot of the driver. The car swirved around and came to a sudden stop right before it hit a pole with a sudden jerk. The crowd around them in the suburb street scattered and screamed as the car came to a hault.
Sean took out one of the guns from his holdster strapped to his chest and fell down against the seat for cover as another barage of bullets cracked the glass and embedded itself into the car. Carefully, he opened the passenger side door and slipped out to look around. The silence prompted Brandon to sit up, taking the vest off of his back and he slid it over Eva who tried to get up but Brandon's body was overtop of hers holding her down. Brandon lifted his head up, looking at his father exiting the car. His eyes scanned from side to side, seeing a case under the seat and slid his hands over to open it. A semi-automatic rested inside.
"Brandon, get off of me...!" Eva squirmed, never one for lying back and being the helpless "woman in distress".
"Stay down Eva. My dad needs my help."
He loaded the chamber and moved over the seat. Eva sat up, and suddenly another barrage of bullets hit the car. Brandon plastered himself to the front seat while Eva recoiled back down, instincitvely covering herself with the vest. Brandon felt a bullet enter his thigh and let out a grunt. Eva let out a yelp herself as she recoiled back from a bullet to the arm. Brandon continued however to move his way outside. Sean was pressed to the ground and crowched close to the car to protect himself. From the distance as Brandon stood up, he saw one of the gunmen and aimed the gun into the air. He had never shot a bullet at a human being before, but every fiber in his being was pulling him towards squeezing the trigger. Sean moved up and saw Brandon with the gun and screamed at him to get down but fell back as the second gunman began his second attack and shot him in the collarbone. Brandon turned quickly aside and aimed at the second gunman and fired two shots at his chest.
The second guman slumped to the ground but just as Brandon turned, his body jerked back multiple times as an array of bullets took hold in his body and his young body fell to the ground. Sean's eyes widened in the most terrorizing fear he'd ever experienced in his life and he raised his own gun shooting the first gunman in his arm, his chest and then his leg in succession.
The sirens were nearing in the distance as Sean Blaylock moved towards his son inches away from him. He pulled him up as Brandon coughed up blood and twitched as his body had never handled this kind of pain before. It felt surreal, beyond a comprehension and slowly he was learning how painful this was going to become as the seconds passed and the scarlet red liquid leaked from his wounds.
Sean held his son close to his chest, rocking the boy back and forth with his grip firm and pressed into the folds of Brandon's leather jacket. Brandon's eyes fell into the back of his head, his eyelids fluttering in a half hazard attempt to stay awake.
"BRANDON! STAY WITH ME!" Sean yelped in exasperation, not even regarding Eva Snow, who had managed to crawl her numbing body out of the vehicle and leaned against it, biting down on her lip as hard as she could so she wouldn't scream out in pain. There was a gunshot wound to her upper arm that was leaking blood all over her school uniform. Her eyes were watered down with tears and her cheeks were stained in dirt and a spatter or two of blood.
Sean smoothed a hand over Brandon's face and pushed back his hair before he held up his head. His greif was overwhelming and he cried out again for Brandon to stay awake, to hold on. Brandon's limbs suddenly went from its stiff posture to a limp one. The grip holding over Sean's heart tightened and wrenched the ventricles and veins right out of his chest as Brandon lips curled at the ends to form a weak smile before there was no energy left within him.
His hands shakily lowered his boy to the ground and Sean could feel his heartbeat quicken and a rush of rage exit from the grip around his heart and flow into his fists. The twin assassins were struggling to get up nearbye but were barely able to move and a few paces later Sean had swung open the door near Eva, who had to quickly move aside as not to get the door in her face. He had ran out of bullets. An automatic was now firmly in his palm as he walked over to the two assassins who were now lying on the ground, barely alive as the blood escaped from their bodies. Sean was still a few paces away from their bodies but his trigger finger held steady and his aim had never been more clear.
Two gunshots in succession ran out of the gun and embedded themselves through the glass and into the heads of both assassins. Eva let out a gasp and flinched as her good hand slapped across her mouth in a shock she had never experience before. She watched Sean for a few moments as his knee dug into the ground and he suddenly felt the blood rush out from his head. He had been shot twice. Once in his lower right arm and another in his leg but until now the pain hadn't been evident.
As the ambulences approached, Eva crawled over to Brandon's body and smoothed back some of his bangs away from his forehead and lightly pressed two fingers against his neck.
"...a pulse..." She whispered, unable to make her voice any louder a crowd had started to gather and the EMT's rushed around in a blur of movement. Sean Blaylock hit the ground a few moments later as the shock slipped out of his body and he felt himself grow heavy at the possibility that his son could be dead.
Somewhere in the darkness of her room, Ana Blaylock, a woman who's heart was made of pure hatred stood by her bedroom window, glancing out into the the garden behind her house and then extended her view to the small view of the city. The ambulence sirens could be heard in the distance and her lips curled into a bitter grin and yet a tear rolled down her cheek despite herself.
Two birds with one stone. One bitter heart.
